Building Healthy Relationships: A New Partnership with Safe Harbor

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Safe Harbor, Inc. and The Heron Institute have announced a partnership to bring Safe Harbor’s Relationship Education Project (REP) to students through Heron Institute Learning Labs (HILL), beginning in Greenville County and expanding as new Learning Labs open across South Carolina.
The Relationship Education Project is a teen dating violence prevention program that helps young people recognize warning signs, understand stalking behaviors, prevent domestic and dating violence, and build healthy, respectful relationships. The partnership between the Heron Institute and Safe Harbor reflects both organizations’ commitment to safe, informed, and supportive communities where students can thrive.
Under the agreement, Safe Harbor will provide the Relationship Education Project curriculum, facilitator training, educational materials, technical assistance and ongoing program support. The Heron Institute will integrate Relationship Education Project into Learning Lab programming, prepare staff to serve as trained facilitators, and create opportunities for students to participate in the program during the school year.
Together, Safe Harbor’s prevention expertise and The Heron Institute’s educational reach will equip more students with practical knowledge for personal safety and positive relationships. The Relationship Education Project is provided to The Heron Institute at no cost as part of Safe Harbor’s commitment to preventing teen dating violence and supporting healthy youth development.
The Heron Institute’s Learning Lab serves all students and families enrolled in their two schools: Cyber Academy of South Carolina and Heron Virtual Academy. The partnership with Safe Harbor is an example of the expanded and strengthened support the Heron Institute seeks to provide the students and families enrolled in their virtual schools.
